Knights Second in Sprint Relay on Sunday

Huntington, VT – Finishing as the runner-up team in a field of 25 teams, the Clarkson University Men's Nordic Ski team just missed out on the top of the podium by under 20 seconds as the Golden Knights competed in the 3x3x1.7K Sprint, hosted by University of Vermont at the Sleepy Hollow Inn Ski & Bike Center.

On the men's side, Clarkson's 'A' entry into the field included Matthew Carner, Adam Jansen, and Torsten Brickley and that trio combined for a time of 38 minutes, 52.2 seconds, only 18.1 seconds off the pace set by the top team from Paul Smiths. Clarner's opening leg was a shade under four minutes (3:59.2), making him the only skier in the entire field to do any run around the track in less than four full minutes.

Clarkson's 'B' group included Finn Payne, Nathaniel Burke, and Silas Bartol, a grouping that placed sixth overall in 41:57.4, and the Golden Knights' 'C' team of William Poppleton, Alex Evans, and Braydon Patch did their three turns with a collective time of 43:31.2.

For the women, Clarkson had its three skiers (Skylar Francis, Clare Janas, and Janneke Baks) combine for 58:39.7, putting the Golden Knights in 15th place out of 27 total teams in the relay. Skylar Francis was under six minutes in each of her three turns, with a low of 5:15.8 to start, which was the seventh-fastest opening leg in the entire field.
