Clarner Leads Knights Nordic on Opening Weekend of 2026 Season

Jackson, NH – Opening the season with a solid effort, the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team was led by Matthew Clarner in the first race of the season, competing in the White Mountain Classic/Jackson Jaunt at the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation Nordic Ski Area.

Clarner led the Knights in the 10K Skate with a time of 24 minutes, 17 seconds, starting his second collegiate season off with a second-place finish among 85 total skiers in the field. Following Clarner in the top 10 were Torsten Brickley (25:17), Adam Jansen (25:44) and Silas Bartol (26:38).

Only two of Clarkson's women were active for the first weekend. Skylar Francis finished the 10K with a time of 32:46 and Clare Janas ended up with a time of 48:57.

In Sunday's race, the White Mountain Classic, the skiers competed in a 25K Classic Marathon race. Among the 73 competitors, Clarner again came in second place, finishing the long event with a time of 1:03:39. Silas Bartol was also in the top 10, taking eighth in 1:08:04. Three more Clarkson men were in the top 25 of the field, as Torsten Brickley took 12th in 1:10:27, Oliver Dolcino was 15th in 1:12:40, and Dillon Franks placed 19th in 1:14:46. For the women, Skylar Francis was 43rd in 1:25:55 and Clare Janas came in 73rd in 2:17:26. Janneke Baks competed in the half course 12K, ending up in 14th out of 17 participants with a time of 1:03:07.
