William Smith Closes Out Knights, 61-51

Sophomore Noelle Miller topped Clarkson with 13 points against William Smith on Saturday.
Geneva, NY - After enjoying a modest lead through the majority of the game, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team found itself on the wrong end of a 10-0 run over the final two-plus minutes as William Smith defeated the Golden Knights 61-51 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, who were looking for a weekend sweep, fell to 4-13 overall and 1-6 in conference contests. The Herons evened their overall mark at 9-9 and are now 4-3 in the Liberty League. Clarkson begins a five-game homestand next Friday against Rensselaer.

After a tight first half, the Knights had a one-point lead at intermission. Despite losing the lead a few times early in the second half, Clarkson was still up by three points with five minutes to go following a 3-point field goal from Sierra Noles (Averill Park, NY). Although a small six-point advantage had slowly slipped away over a 10-minute stretch, the Knights were still tied at 51-51 with 2:42 remaining, with every chance to still claim the victory. Unfortunately, Clarkson struggled down the stretch in its final six possessions, with two missed shots and four turnovers, allowing the Herons to gain a 10-point win.

Clarkson shot 42.2 percent from the floor, nearly seven points higher than William Smith, but the Knights gained only four offensive rebounds throughout the game and turned the ball over 22 times, giving the Herons 20 extra shots (65-45).

Junior Chrissy Scanlon (Queensbury, NY) produced her third double-double of the season with 11 points (5-for-8 from the floor) and 10 rebounds and senior Sierra Noles added 11 points and four assists. Sophomore Noelle Miller (Hamburg, NY) posted a team-best 13 points for the Knights. For William Smith, the Liberty League's second-leading scorer Kristen Kush tossed in 20 points with eight rebounds, and three others scored 10 points for the Herons.
