Four Starters in Double Figures, But Knights Upended by Hobart, 79-77

Potsdam, NY – Ryan Miles-Ferguson scored 24 to lead four starters in double figures, but the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team was a basket short against Hobart College, falling 79-77 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 10-6 overall and 4-5 in conference games at the midway point of the league season, while Hobart pushed its mark to 13-4 and 6-4. Clarkson takes on St. Lawrence University on Tuesday evening at Alumni Gym.

Miles-Ferguson started off with a couple of jumpers, a 3-pointer, and two free throws, accounting for 10 of the team's first 13 points in less than six minutes, putting Clarkson up 13-7 with a little over 14 minutes to go in the first half. Clarkson led for the next handful of minutes, with Hobart recapturing the lead on a Pat Healy make. That bucket was immediately following by an Isaiah Washington 3-pointer to put the Statesmen up by four thanks to a 9-0 run. Clarkson would trail for the most of remaining moments of the half, but a 3-pointer at the buzzer from Braeden Burns had the Knights heading into the locker room with a two-point lead, 38-36.

In the second half, the two teams traded the lead on a couple of occasions as the game remained close. Aydin Kocak hit a 3-pointer from the wing, and Steve DeRegis followed with another 3-pointer at 9:20 to give the Knights a four-point advantage. Over the next few minutes, Hobart was able to come back and take the lead off a layup-and-one from Aidan Rodgers. Since the lead had changed hands so many times at the start of the second, it appeared as if Clarkson would come right back, but Hobart held the advantage the rest of the way. The Knights did challenge on a few occasions, coming within one after two free throws from Ryan Miles-Ferguson at 3:02, and again on a layup from Braeden Burns with 21.3 seconds to go, but the Statesmen made key free throws down the stretch to claim the win.

Ryan Miles-Ferguson scored 15 of his game-high 24 points in the first half, shooting 8-for-9 from the line overall. Steve DeRegis finished with 14, while both Burns and Jack Dalgety netted 13.

For Hobart, Aidan Rodgers was 6-for-11 from the field and 8-for-9 at the line for 22 points and Isaiah Washington tossed in 17 points for the Statesmen.
