Taking a break between conference weekends, the Clarkson University Softball team heads to Central New York to take on Oswego State in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.

The Series: The two teams have met five times previously, with the first game coming in Florida back in 2015. Clarkson swept the doubleheader a year ago with consecutive shutouts and have outscored the Lakers 35-7, winning four times in five matchups.

Key Stats for Clarkson (12-10): Sophomore catcher Zoey Kovach has recovered from a somewhat slow start to hit .324/.367/.446 through 22 games. Since the team returned from Florida, Kovach is 14-for-36 (.389) and has hits nine of the last 10 games. Bridget Twaits is batting .397/.463/.425 with 13 runs scored, ranking eighth in the conference in batting average and seventh in on-base percentage. Both Riley Page and Devin Fitzpatrick tossed shutouts this past week for the Knights. The two have combined for more than 100 strikeouts in 138.2 innings, while allowing just 24 total walks.

Key Stats for Oswego State (7-17-1): Fiona Higgins is one of the top hitters and pitchers for the Lakers, posting 124 strikeouts in 79 innings of work with a 3.37 earned run average. Higgins has been somewhat snake bit by walks, however, giving up 36 free passes. The Lakers have just two .300 hitters in Madison Hoeflich and Christina Kania, but it is a soft .300 as the pair of combined for just one extra-base hit. The top offensive threat is Samantha Morgan, who is batting .290/.388/.493 with 10 extra-base hits. Clarkson may want to look to run against Oswego, as the Laker catchers have thrown out just one runner in 41 tries this year.
