The Clarkson Men's Hockey team traveled to Dartmouth, looking to get a split on the weekend and came away with a 5-4 win at Thompson Arena.
Â
Clarkson jumped out to an early lead but Dartmouth battled their way back towards the end of the 2nd period.
Trey Taylor got the first goal for the Golden Knights, just 1:19 into the contest.Â
Anthony Romano put the Knights up 2-0 at 11:10 in the 1st. Dartmouth was able to pull within 1 heading into the intermission.
Clarkson jumped out quick to start the 2nd, when
Erik Bargholtz scored a short-handed goal at 2:13. The Knights extended the lead to 4-1 when
Ayrton Martino scored at 12:46.Â
Ryan Taylor made it 5-1 at 13:02, with assists from
Ayrton Martino and
Dustyn McFaul.Â
Dartmouth would fight their way back into the game with goals at 14:41 and late in the period with under a minute left. Â
In the third, the Big Green would make it 5-4 mid-way thru the period. Dartmouth would get the extra attacker on with about 1:15 left in the game, but the Knights did a great job of staying in the shot lanes forcing Dartmouth into some bad angle shots. An icing with 6 seconds left brought the face-off into the Clarkson zone, but
Mathieu Gosselin won the draw and
Noah Beck was able to clear the zone to preserve the win for the Knights.Â
Ethan Haider made 18 saves for his 10th win of the season in net for the Knights. Clarkson was 0- 1 on the power play and held the Big Green to 0-2.
Next weekend the Knights will travel to RPI and Union before they return to the North Country at the end of January for the home and home with St. Lawrence.
