Gearhart Scores Career-High 21 in Loss at Bard

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – Junior Blake Gearhart scored 19 of his game-high 21 points in the second half, but his effort was not enough for the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team to come from behind against Bard College in an 81-72 loss on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Knights saw their record fall to 5-13 overall and 2-9 in the Liberty League, while Bard edged to 7-10 and 3-7. Clarkson will continue its road run this weekend at RIT and Hobart.

Bard had a modest lead in the early going, but a 3-pointer from Mike Parme began a 10-0 run, which incidentally was capped off by another 3-pointer from Parme at 12:45. Clarkson halted the stretch with back-to-back baskets, but neither team mustered much in the way of offense for the next few minutes. The Raptors broke out first and expanded their lead to as many as 14 points as Clarkson's only basket in a six-minute stretch was a 3-pointer from Jack Dalgety. In the final minutes, the Knights edged back within single digits, but a late long-range shot from the Raptors pushed the margin back to 11 at the break.

Clarkson shot just 2-for-13 from the 3-point line in the first half, while the Raptors went 5-for-19 from beyond the arc, as their extra makes nearly made up the entire difference.

Bard saw its lead extend back to 13 in the early going of the second half, but Clarkson had a quick run to reduce the deficit to six (41-35) following a Teddy Fravel layup. The Knights got within five near the midway point of the half, but the Raptors answered back with a handful of mini-runs, giving the home team its biggest lead of the contest.

Down by 15, Clarkson began to make a run in the final four minutes. Ryan Miles Ferguson started things with a driving layup and then added a three-point play on a lay in and free throw. Chris Hulbert buried a 3-pointer to get Clarkson within eight at the 2:48 mark, but the Knights couldn't get any closer until Blake Gearhart dropped in a layup and hit the following free throw to make the score 72-65. From that point on, the Raptors were able to put the game away in the final minute with a streak of free throws.

Gearhart finished the game with 21 points on 7-for-11 shooting to go along with eight rebounds and four assists. Ryan Miles-Ferguson added 13 points and seven boards and Chris Hulbert chipped in 10 points. Five players finished in double figures for Bard, led by Stamatis Koulouris's double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds).
