Slow Second Half See Knights Fall Versus Wisconsin-Superior, 55-46

Naples, FL – Junior Garret Delaney came off the bench to score 13 points in 20 minutes, but his effort was not enough for the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team, as the Golden Knights lost a low-scoring contest against Wisconsin-Superior, 55-46 to round out the Green and Gold's holiday trip in Florida.

The Golden Knights saw their record fall to 5-5 on the season while Wisconsin-Superior moved to 5-6. Clarkson returns to Liberty League action next weekend when the team begins a 15-game conference stretch with games against Vassar College and Bard College.

Clarkson held the lead twice in the early going, but found itself trailing by a basket or two for most of the first half. Down by six roughly seven minutes into the game, the Knights came back to tie the score twice near the midway mark of the half, only to see the Yellowjackets go on a 9-1 run down the stretch of the opening 20 minutes. Clarkson was able to get back within four by the break thanks to a 3-pointer from Garret Delaney with less than three minutes to go and a make from Matteo Sinon in the final minute.

At the start of the second, Clarkson pulled to within one on two occasions as the Knights were able to hit some free throws in the first four minutes. However, Clarkson was without a basket in the second half until Ryan Miles-Ferguson hit a 3-pointer at the 13:11 mark. On the other end, the Yellowjackets were having less trouble and built their lead to as many as nine points on four occasions by the 10-minute mark of the half. Both teams were cold for a spell, and Superior edged up by double figures twice as Clarkson continued to struggle from the floor. Garret Delaney hit a couple of shots to keep things interesting for the Knights, and late in the half Ryan Miles-Ferguson again hit free throws to get the Green and Gold back within seven with just over two minutes to go. However, those were the final points that the Knights would score as the Yellowjackets tacked on a few free throws in the waning moments to keep Clarkson at a safe distance.

Neither team shot particularly well in the second half, as Clarkson was just 5-for-23 and Superior was only 8-for-31. The difference in the game came on ball control, as the Knights committed 21 turnovers against 10 for Superior.

Delaney scored 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting, making three 3-point field goals along the way. The only other player for Clarkson to finish in double figures was Ryan Miles-Ferguson, who finished with 11 points thanks to an 8-for-10 run from the free throw line. For Superior, Josef Fahrenholtz was the lone player in double figures, as he tallied 11 points and seven rebounds.
