The Golden Knights looked to rebound from a disappointing OT loss on Friday night as they took on Hockey East's Merrimack College. The Knights would end up dropping their second straight 1 goal game on the weekend.
Clarkson and Merrimack went scoreless in the first period but at the 4:30 mark of the second period,
Anthony Romano got his first of the season to put the Knights up 1-0,
Ayrton Martino and
Noah Beck got the helpers on the goal.
Merrimack would even the score at the 9:27 mark of the 2nd.
Clarkson would retake the lead at 11:50 when
Ryan Taylor would score his first goal as a Golden Knight, when slammed home a centering feed from
Anthony Callin.
Merrimack would even the game up in the third on an early goal and then with about 12 min to go,
Luke Mobley was assessed a 5 min major for boarding, leading to a Merrimack power play goal to take the 3-2 lead.
Clarkson would pull their goalie with 1:36 left but were unable to get the equalizer.
Ethan Haider finished with 30 saves on the night. Clarkson went 0 for 1 on the power play, while giving up 1 goal on 3 chances for Merrimack.
Clarkson will have a short week, when they travel to Providence on Thursday to take on the Friars.
