Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Clarkson Settles for Tie vs. Guelph

In its first action of the season the Clarkson University Men's Hockey team came away with a 3-3 tie against the University of Guelph in exhibition play before 2,372 fans at Cheel Arena on Saturday night.

The Golden Knights picked up goals from three different players and received a 22-save effort from a pair of goaltenders.

Clarkson took the lead early in the first period with a goal by sophomore assistant captain Devin Brosseau (St. Lambert, QUE) and made it 2-0 just 1:50 into the second period when freshman Josh Dickinson (Georgetown, ONT) connected off a passing combination from linemates, sophomore Haralds Egle (Liepaia, Latvia) and junior Juho Jokiharju (Tampere, Finland).

Guelph answered back, however, with the next three goals to hold a 3-2 lead with less than three minutes to play in the middle frame.

The Knights' top returning scorer, sophomore Sheldon Rempal (Calgary, ALB) put Clarkson back on the scoreboard early in the third, finishing off an assist from classmate Nico Sturm (Augsburg, Germany) to make it 3-3 at 1:42.

The Green and Gold, who outshot the Gryphons 34-25, had numerous chances to pull out the win late in regulation and in the five-minute overtime period, when they held a 5-0 shot advantage over the visitors.

Sophomore Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) started in the Clarkson crease and made 10 saves on 11 shots through 34 minutes. Freshman Nicholas Latinovich (Maple, ONT) posted 12 saves and allowed two goals in 31 minutes to record the tie.

The Knights went 0-of-7 on the power play and killed off three of Guelph's four man-advantage chances.

Clarkson officially opens the 2017-18 campaign next weekend hosting Penn State and Michigan.
