CU Volleyball Preview - Liberty League Semifinals vs. Vassar (11/3)

Having rattled off five straight Liberty League titles, the Clarkson University Volleyball team is looking to end the weekend needing a second hand to indicate their consecutive title streak, and the Golden Knights will begin that trek against Vassar College at 5:00 pm Friday evening in Ithaca, NY.

LIVE STATS/LIVE VIDEO

The Series vs. Vassar: With a four-set win on October 21, Clarkson extended its advantage in the all-time series to 20-13 overall. Vassar won two of the three meetings in 2016, but Clarkson won the Liberty League Championship match last November for a two-match winning streak.

Key Stats for Clarkson: The Golden Knights have a solid offense, but it's their defense that receives the headlines in 2017. Clarkson ranks eighth in the nation in digs per set (19.56 dps) thanks to the effort from sophomore Kate Isaksen, who currently leads all of Division III with 6.78 digs per set. Clarkson is also difficult to ace, giving up just 1.26 per set, and the Knights sometimes just put one blocker on hitters, allowing Rachael Aird (26) and Rachel Reusch (24) to rank first and second, respectively, in the conference in solo blocks.

Key Stats for Vassar: The Brewers struggled in their first match up against Clarkson, hitting a season-low .046, one of only three times that Vassar has hit below .150 all season (all losses). The game between the Brewers and Knights is truly a duel of strengths; Vassar's offense versus Clarkson's defense. Vassar ranks 34th nationally in hitting percentage (.227) and 36th in aces per set (2.62 aps). Junior Devan Gallagher averages 4.68 kills per set (fourth nationally) and a .277 hitting percentage overall, but had 3.75 kills per set and a .038 hitting percentage on 78 attempts against the Knights on October 21.
