CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - at RIT/Rochester (3/27-28)

Winners of five straight, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team will look to continue its winning streak this weekend when the team begins conference play against RIT and the University of Rochester.

The Golden Knights enter the weekend with a mark of 5-1, recovering from an opening-game loss against Utica to win five straight including two come-from-behind victories. RIT is 2-4 so far, while the University of Rochester is a game above .500 at 4-3. The Golden Knights are only 2-5 all-time against RIT, but the Knights came away with a 9-4 win over the Tigers in 2014. Versus Rochester, Clarkson has won only twice in 27 all-time meetings, but the two wins have come during the current senior class's tenure (2012, 2013).

Clarkson junior Christine Wright leads the Liberty League in scoring so far with 33 points, ranking fourth in both goals (19) and assists (14). That figure of 33 points is also 25th in the nation thus far. Sophomore Paige Fayette ranks 10th in the league in both goals (16) and points (22) and also leads the Golden Knights with 15 groundballs while ranking second in caused turnovers with eight. Freshman Taylor Collins, who has 11 goals and 11 groundballs, leads the team in draw controls (17), averaging 2.83 per game, seventh in the conference. Ashley Flick also has chipped in nine goals and 11 roundballs, while Emma Jeffery leads the team with nine caused turnovers. Clarkson goaltender Dani Tani, named the Liberty League Defender of the Week on Monday, is third in the conference in goals against average (8.86 gaa) and has also posted a .413 save percentage.

The Tigers' offense comes predominantly from three players as Sage Sarkis, Emily Livecchi and Corrina Mandell have combined to score 41 of the team's 57 goals this year. Sarkis leads the team with 17 goals and has 20 points, while Livecchi, too, has 20 points, except on 14 goals and six assists. Mandell also has produced 14 points and a team-best 19 draw controls. Megan Schmauder leads the squad with 13 groundballs, one more than Holly Leone's 12 groundball pickups. Leone leads the defense with eight caused turnovers. Caitlin Conway has seen approximately three-quarters of the time in the RIT crease with a 12.29 goals against average and a .417 save percentage.

Jamie Wallach is among the team leaders for the Yellowjackets in virtually every category, including goals (23), assists (10), points (33), groundballs (19), caused turnovers (14) and draw controls (25), all of which rank in the top eight in the Liberty League so far. Mara Karpp is fifth in the conference in assists (11) and has 18 points overall, while Lauren Basil is the team's second goal scorer with 13 through seven games. Eliszabeth Watson also has a strong impact for the Jackets with 15 points on 12 goals and three assists, and she ranks third in the league with 26 draws. Maire Prosak has just a .371 save percentage for Rochester, but her 9.04 goals against average keeps the Yellowjackets in many games.
