Freshman defenseman Andrew Himelson’s (Monroe, NY) first collegiate goal proved to be the game-winner as the Clarkson University Hockey team defeated Harvard University 2-1 in overtime before 2,238 fans in ECAC Hockey action at Cheel Arena on Friday night.

Clarkson, which won its third straight game at Cheel Arena, host Dartmouth in the regular season final on Saturday with faceoff at 7:00 p.m. The Golden Knights own an 8-22-3 overall record and a 4-15-2 ECAC Hockey mark.

Head Coach George Roll Post Game

Himelson took a pass from along the left boards by senior Matt Beca (Mississauga, ONT) and fired a shot from the top of the right circle that found its way through traffic in front and past Crimson goaltender Ryan Carroll for the deciding goal with 1:49 left in the five-minute overtime. Sophomore Nick Tremblay (Candiac, QUE) also assisted.

In a tight-checking contest all the scoring in regulation took place in an 11-second span early in the third period. After battling to a scoreless draw through 40 minutes, Harvard (7-18-3, 7-11-3) struck first when Doug Rogers connected for his sixth goal of the season on a quick wrist shot from the high slot 49 seconds into the third period. Alex Biega assisted.

Clarkson answered right back at the one-minute mark as junior Brandon DeFazio (Oakville, ONT) found sophomore Louke Oakley (Whitby, ONT) all alone in front of an empty Harvard net with a pass from out of the corner. Oakley tapped in his third goal of the season as Carroll was caught behind his net in an attempt to play the puck. Himelson also assisted.
