Hurff Breaks 37-Year-Old Mark in 1000 Freestyle for Knights

Middlebury, VT – Sophomore Natasha Hurff broke 37-year-old record in the 1000 freestyle to headline the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team's results on day one of the Middlebury Invitational.

The event does not include scoring as it serves as an invitational for teams to prepare for their conference championship meets. Session two will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday and the third session starts at 4:00 pm Saturday afternoon.

Hurff barely nudged Laura Gregory out of the Clarkson record book, finishing the 1000 freestyle in 11:02.18, only .16 seconds faster than Gregory's time set in February 1989 at Hamilton College. Hurff finished second in the event, the top performance of any of the Clarkson women. Paige Davis had the top times for the Knights in the 50 butterfly and 200 individual medley, Fiona Reilly posted the best time for Clarkson in the 50 backstroke, Aurora Zary had the top performance in the 50 breaststroke, and Addison Gorton led Clarkson's charge in the 50 freestyle.

Clarkson's men had a few top-five finishes on day one in Middlebury. Evan Paneras was fourth in the 50 butterfly (23.93) while Mason Cartier and James Fedele finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 50 backstroke, led by Cartier's time of 25.75. Andrew Sammons was just outside the top five, taking sixth in the 50 breaststroke for the Knights, while Owen White had the best finishes for Clarkson in the 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle. Casey Everett was second in the 1000 freestyle for the Golden Knights in 9:54.79, which was a little over seven seconds off his own school record set a year ago.
