Knights Strike Three Times for Win at Brockport

Box Score
Brockport, NY -  Three goals over the final 55 minutes of the contest gave the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team a victory in the 1000th game in program history, as the Golden Knights downed Brockport 3-0 Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights remain unbeaten at 2-0-1 and will enjoy their first taste of a home game on Wednesday when they host SUNY Canton.

Despite the lopsided score at the end of the contest, Brockport had the better chances in the early going, albeit from safe distances away. Carter Kladstrup was able to corral a few headers from far out, and his best defensive play came by smothering a close cross that could have resulted in a goal had he not gotten in the way of the pass.

After those handful of chances in the first 25 minutes of the game, Clarkson began to control the play and assert itself on offense. Brockport goalkeeper Matthew Sandison made a diving save in the 34th minute and then denied another two minutes later on a direct kick from 22 yards out. However, the ensuing corner kick resulted in the first goal of the contest. Morgan Burke ran around a few defenders near the top of the 18 after the corner from Juan Pestarino, and found himself in a good spot for a header. He just beat Sandison to the ball, and his header dropped into the goal at 36:13 to make it 1-0.

Clarkson scored its second goal of the game off another restart, this time going the entirety of the field in roughly 13 seconds. Carter Kladstrup took a goal kick and sent a long ball into the midfield, where it was flicked twice off headers and then controlled along the left wing by Alper Celik. His pass back to the middle found Brody Frankowski at the top of the 18, and after one step to gather, Frankowski's shot went to the near post at 61:39, making it 2-0.

Twenty-three minutes later, another goal came off a direct kick, this one from close to midfield. Morgan Burke got things rolling with his pass into traffic, where the ball was touched and dropped down to Zach Shufelt's foot, and the senior completed the play with a score at 84:38.

Clarkson finished a shot short in that category (10-9) to Brockport, but the two teams were tied in shots on goal (7-7) and corner kick chances (3-3). Kladstrup finished with seven saves and Sandison made four saves for Brockport.
