Walsh and Makowski Notch 74 in First Round of Fall 2025 for the Golden Knights

Potsdam, NY – Senior Aaron Walsh and junior Ryan Makowski each shot 74 on Wednesday afternoon to lead the Clarkson University Golf team in its opening tournament of the season on familiar territory, the par-72 Potsdam Town & Country Club.

The Golden Knights 'A' team tied for second (305) with the St. Lawrence 'A' team and St. Lawrence 'B' team, trailing SUNY Canton's 'A' team by four strokes (301). Clarkson's 'B' team shot 308, Oswego State was one shot behind at 309, and SUNY Canton's 'B' squad was 349. Clarkson has another local tournament this weekend, playing at St. Lawrence's course in Canton on Saturday and Sunday.

Makowski had the best score for Clarkson's top team, scoring a 74 with 35 on the front and 39 on the back. He finished four birdies and nine pars on the day, going one under on the 3rd, 9th, 15th, and 16th. Luke Weisiger was next for the Knights, tying for seventh (out of 39 golfers) with a 75. He scored a 38 on the front and 37 on the back, recording birdies on the 1st and 16th holes, both par-fives. Eric Spoth tied for 14th in the tournament with a 78, picking up a bird on number-11. Classmate Joe Tiderencel also shot 78, getting birdies on number-10 and number-16, both par-fives. Tyler Yacawych's 83 was dropped from the team score. The sophomore finished with 11 pars in his round.

Aaron Walsh, headliner for Clarkson's 'B' team, shot a two-over 74, rolling along consistently with a 35 on the back nine where he began and then finishing with a 39 on the front thanks to birdies on the 1st, 10th, and 16th holes as well as 11 pars. Alex Sweeney picked up a 76, notching an eagle on number-16 and also picking up a bird on number-10 to go along with nine pars. Jace Dutch also shot 78 with a birdie on number-two and 10 pars. Brian Secor shot 40 on the front and 40 on the back, recording 12 pars, to finish off the 'B' team's tally. Vincent Magee was right there as well with an 81, scoring birds on the 1st and 18th holes. Playing as an individual outside the team scoring, Payne Wood shot 85, picking up a birdie on the par-three 3rd hole.
