Plattsburgh, NY - Juniors Drew Reigelsperger and Skylar Francis were the first runners across the finish line for the Clarkson University Cross Country team as the Golden Knights opened up the 2025 season with a second-place and third-place finish at the Plattsburgh Invitational.

The Golden Knights' men took second overall with 47 points, behind only St. Lawrence University (20), but ahead of Plattsburgh State (98), Paul Smiths (137), Remparts (140), SUNY Potsdam (157), and Clinton Community College (191), while the Clarkson women were third among four teams with 81 points, trailing SLU (15) and Plattsburgh (47) and ahead of Paul Smiths (114).

Reigelsperger was close to the pace setter in the 5000-meter event, finishing the race in 15 minutes, 57.5 seconds, only 9.1 seconds behind the leader, with his time being good enough for fourth place in the field of 78 runners. The next Clarkson runner across the line was sophomore Matthew Clarner, finishing his first collegiate race in 16:13.4, taking seventh overall. Classmate James Lynch followed up in 12th place in 16:32.3 and fellow sophomore Frank Consolazio was eight seconds behind him in 15th place with a time of 16:40. Freshman Finley Knappe then closed out Clarkson's team scoring in 17th place, finishing in 16:48.7. Clarkson's next two runners would have kept the Knights in second regardless, as Jack Zieber (18th, 16:52.5) and Tyson Fuller (19th, 16:56.2) were right behind Knappe.

On the women's side, the Knights were short a couple of competitors, but still performed well in the first race of the season. Skylar Francis finished the 5000-meter race in 17th place among 46 total runners, crossing the line in 21:25.5. A pair of newcomers to the program were just behind Francis, as Meagan Speizer took 20th place in 21:46.6 and Janneke Baks came in 27th in 22:46.5. Junior Kelly Lahiff placed two spots behind Baks in 29th with a time of 23:33.6 and Elizabeth Kraynak rounded out Clarkson's top five by finishing in 24:24.5, the 31st best time in the field. Madeline Bresnan was next for Clarkson in 34th (24:38.3) and Olivia Stalker followed in 37th (25:27.1).
