Knights Fall Short in Game 3 Versus Ithaca, 8-3

Ithaca, NY – Three players at the top of the lineup posted multi-hit days for the Clarkson University Baseball team, but the effort wasn't enough as Ithaca College took game three of the series against the Golden Knights 8-3 on Saturday.

Clarkson saw its record fall to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the Liberty League, while Ithaca moved to 5-1 in conference games and 12-8 on the season. The Green and Gold are scheduled to face SUNY Cortland on Tuesday, April 1, and then have a three-game Liberty League series next weekend at Hobart College.

In the first inning, Ithaca struck for two runs. Ethan Fantel doubled home Collin Feeney who had reached when he was hit by a pitch, and two batters later Fantel scored on a double from Ethan Daddabbo.  Two solo home runs in the next few innings put the tally at 4-0 as Ryan Laubscher led off second with a solo shot to left and Ryan Brawdy began the fourth with a bomb to right.

Clarkson got its offense rolling in the bottom of the fourth, stringing four hits together. Aidan Kuefner opened with a single to center and Joe Figliolino followed with another hit to put runners on the corners. Cam Jerrett then singled through the right side to plate Kuefner and James Mason then singled to score Figliolino to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Two innings later, the Bombers got going again as a one-out single by Feeney plated Brawdy and then Logan Scully scored a pair with a single, making the score 7-2 through six innings.

It appeared as if the Knights might register a comeback in the eighth inning when Figliolino opened the frame with a walk and then scored on a single by James Mason. However, after another walk put runners on first and second, two quick outs ended the threat.

Aidan Kuefner, Cam Jerrett, and James Mason each posted two hits on the day for the Knights, with Mason also driving in a pair of runs and Joe Figliolino scoring twice. For Ithaca, Collin Feeney was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Andrew McDermott, Ethan Daddabbo, Matt Curtis, and Ryan Laubscher each produced two hits.
