Box Score
Auburndale, FL – A cornucopia of runs came for the Clarkson University Baseball team on Sunday afternoon, but the team gave up plenty as well in its 21-14 slugfest victory over Fredonia State at the Northeast Regional Park in Central Florida.

The Golden Knights improved to 6-2 on the year following their third win in Florida. Clarkson will close out its spring trip on Monday, taking on Wisconsin-River Falls. The Blue Devils fell to 4-1 on the season.

Clarkson put up crooked numbers in the first three innings and then bolstered the total in the seventh and eighth innings as well, as the two teams combined for 35 runs on 29 hits.

Fredonia scored twice in the first inning, but the Knights tallied two in the bottom half of the frame, two more in the third, and then crossed the plate six more times in the fourth for a 10-2 lead, which seemed likely to be insurmountable at the time. Seth Albert took home on a delayed steal when Aidan Kuefner advanced to second on a wild pitch in the first, and Kuefner came around on a single by Cam Jerrett to tie the game at 2-2 after the first. In the bottom half of the second, Beau Vardion tripled home Christopher Griggs and then scored himself on a ground out. The bottom half of the third saw the Knights string together numerous hit, with the first run-producing knock coming off the bat of James Mason. CJ Cartier the singled through the left side to push another run across, setting up Griggs for a three-run home run to put the tally at 9-2. Not to be outdone, Beau Vardion followed with a solo shot to left-center, making it 10-2.

Fredonia took advantage of some Clarkson miscues and free bases in the fifth and sixth innings to get back within one, and the Blue Devils took the lead in the seventh. Fredonia first tied the game on a bases loaded sacrifice fly by Bryce Firkins. Each of the runners moved up a base on the sac fly, but it mattered little to Christian Cabrera, who drove in the other two and himself with a long home run to make it 13-10.

Although Clarkson was quiet on offense in the middle innings, the Knights responded with eight in the bottom half of the seventh. James Mason got the Green and Gold back within two when he stole third and came home on an error, and Jackson Waters followed closely thereafter with a two-run double to tie the game. Three batters later, Joe Figliolino homered to put the score at 16-13, but Clarkson wasn't finished. Griggs forced home a run with a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch allowed Mason to score for the second time in the inning.

The Blue Devils chipped the lead back a run in the top of the eighth, only to see Clarkson plate three more. Colby Fox tripled in Seth Albert and Jackson Waters and then scored on a Figliolino single for the final run of the contest.

Six players recorded multiple hits for the Knights and eight players scored two runs or more in the contest. Cam Jerrett stayed hot, going 3-for-4 and reaching base five times overall while Figliolino was 3-for-5 with four RBI. Griggs had the biggest day overall, scoring three times and driving in four by going 4-for-5, and Vardion drove in two and scored three times on his two hits. Mason also crossed the plate three times in the win.
