Two key games for the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team await this weekend, as the Golden Knights take on Union College and Ithaca College on Friday and Saturday at Alumni Gymnasium. The Green and Gold will also be celebrating the five senior members of the Golden Knights' squad prior to Saturday's contest in addition to the annual Alumni Game earlier in the day.

The Series: The Knights lost both games on the road in mid-January, falling by three to Ithaca despite a near double-double from Finn Cork (14 points, nine rebounds), and dropping a 20-point decision to Union when the Garnet Chargers went for 58 second-half points.

Key Stats for Clarkson (11-10, 7-7 Liberty League): Although each of the five senior members of the Knights have added to the program in their own way over the years, it is a sophomore that has stood out the most in 2024-25. Forward Braeden Burns started off slow, but has gone on a tear since the calendar flipped to 2025. Burns was shooting just 21.7% from beyond the 3-point arc (5-for-23) in 2024, but is hitting long-range shots at a 47.4% clip (27-for-57) with at least one 3-pointer per game in 2025. That precision from distance has helped loosen up defenses who were used to the forward driving to the basket. Burns topped 700 career points in his 46th collegiate game last Saturday, becoming the first sophomore to hit that mark since John Coleman did so in 2013.

Key Stats for Union (12-9, 8-6 Liberty League): The Garnet Chargers have the second-highest scoring offense in the league, thanks in large part to their ability to make 3-pointers. Union leads the conference at 35.8% from the arc, having made 181 from deep. Matthew Garside is tied for the league lead in 3-pointers with 58, including two buzzer-beating game winners against St. Lawrence and Vassar in the past month. Garside, Christian Dufort (40), and Tanner Tedesco (37) all rank in the top 11 in the conference in 3-pointers made, making Union the only team with even two players that high on the leaderboard.

Key Stats for Ithaca (13-8, 10-4 Liberty League): Logan Wendell ranks in the top five in the Liberty League in scoring at 17.1 points per game despite an overall shooting percentage below 40% and less than 29% from beyond the arc. Wendell has done much of his damage from the free throw line, where he is shooting 85.4% with the second-most makes in the conference (105), just one short of his total from the 2023-24 season. Wendell scored a season-low six points the first time around against the Knights, one of only three times this year that the senior has been held to single digits. On the other end of the spectrum, sophomore center Jaylon O'Neal had one of his three 20-point games against Clarkson.
