Huntington, V.T.- Joey Rouhana paced the field on a warm January day as the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team took part in the Spike Clayton Memorial Invite Skiathlon hosted by the University of Vermont, on Saturday.
Both teams will compete in the criterium Sunday, with another 10 a.m. race start time scheduled at the Sleepy Hollow Inn Ski and Bike Center.Â
Rouhana was the only skier to finish below the 29 minute mark, posting a 14:43.8 time in the classic and a 14:15.3 in the skate, good for a 28:59.1 timestamp and first-place overall in the event. Not far behind in third place was Torsten Brickley with a 15:14.7 (classic) and 14:36.1 (skate), 29:50.8 overall. Rounding out the top-10 finishes for the Golden Knights was Matthew Clarner in eighth place with a 15:36.1 classic, 14:40.3 skate and 30:16.4 overall. Clarkson and the University of Vermont were the only two schools to have three skiers finish in the top-10 of the field.
Just outside of that group in 11th place was Finn Payne at 30:32.7 overall while further down the leaderboard Silas Bartol (31:59.1) and Adam Jansen (32:04.2) crossed the finish line at 19th and 20th, respectively. Oliver Dolcino (32:39.3) at 23rd, Andrew Kanclerz (37:00.4) at 36th and Patrick Murray (38:00.5) at 44th rounded out the finishes for the Green and Gold on the first day.Â
On the women's side, Skylar Francis was the top finisher again for the Knights, crossing the finish line in 17th, with a 19:25.8 in the classic and 18:51.3 in the skate, good for a 38:17.1 time overall. In 49th, Raegan Joly posted a 47:00.3 overall, with a 24:30.3 classic and 22:29.9 skate, while Clare Janas would round out the field for the Golden Knights in 68th with an overall time of 01:06:22.5.Â
