Late Run From Vassar Sends Knights to 74-63 Defeat

Potsdam, NY – Senior Finn Cork had a monster game with 21 points, 19 rebounds, and 4 assists, but the forward's effort wasn't enough as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team suffered a 74-63 loss to Vassar College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in conference games, and Vassar moved to 7-5 and 3-2. Clarkson is on the road for the next three weekends, beginning with a trip to Ithaca College and Union College next Friday and Saturday.

Both teams came out strong on offense as the two teams were both shooting 60% from the floor or better in the first eight-plus minutes. Things cooled off dramatically over the final 11 minutes though, as Clarkson was just 5-for-20 from the field and Vassar nearly the same at 5-for-19. The Brewers led by four with 5:18 to go after a Sebastian Medina jumper, but those were the final points of the half for Vassar, allowing Clarkson to reclaim the lead with a 9-0 run, capped off by two free throws from Finn Cork with 16.5 seconds left.
The game continued to seesaw back and forth for much of the second half until Vassar took the lead for good when Avery Lee hit a 3-pointer at the 9:02 mark. Clarkson would remain in striking distance until the final two minutes, when Shea Fitzgerald began making short jumpers and getting to the basket for some key points while the Knights came up empty repeatedly on their end of the floor. With some free throws late, Vassar finished with an 11-point win, far more separation than the game displayed.

Cork closed out with a double-double that saw him shoot 6-for-12 from the field and 9-for-12 from the free throw line for 21 points to go along with 19 rebounds, including 15 on the defensive end. Braeden Burns was Clarkson's top scorer, netting 24 points on 9-for-16 shooting with five 3-pointers on eight tries.

For Vassar, Shea Fitzgerald scored half of his 22 points in the final seven minutes of the game and added in seven rebounds. Avery Lee chipped in 18 points and Sebastian Medina contributed a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.
