Potsdam, NY – Josh Conklin connected on a header with less than five minutes remaining to help lift the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against Brockport on Friday afternoon at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 2-0-0 on the season and will travel to Vermont to take on Castleton tomorrow afternoon. Brockport suffered its first defeat of the season, dropping to 1-1-1.

It took little time for Brockport to get on top, as what looked like a harmless kick forward converted to a goal. After that pass from the other side of the midfield, Russ Domm outpaced three Clarkson defenders and took an evasive dribble to his right to get a shot past Carter Kladstrup just 77 seconds into the game. A near replay occurred only a few moments later, but this time Kladstrup extended to his left and got a hand on the shot to keep the score at 1-0.

That save proved vital as the Golden Knights shook off their early game malaise. The Green and Gold got an extra spring in their step when Eric McKean scored off a direct kick with less than 10 minutes gone. A foul was committed just outside the penalty area, and McKean snuck a shot just inside the near post at 9:39.

Clarkson carried the play in the second half, though Brockport did have some chances. Their best one came off a corner kick, but Kladstrup elevated to snag the cross before it could find a head of one of the Brockport players. The Knights nearly took the lead with less than eight minutes remaining, but Zach Shufelt's header from in close was denied by Brockport goalkeeper Andrew Taylor.

It would turn out that Shufelt would be involved in the game-winner only three minutes later. After a deep throw-in from Logan Drake, Daniel Medina picked up possession in the midfield and sent a long pass down the right sideline to Shufelt. The junior then lofted a cross back through the box to Josh Conklin, where Conklin bounced one in off his head with only 4:16 left on the clock.

Brockport had a 10-9 lead in shots, though Clarkson led in shots on goal 6-4. The Golden Eagles also had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Kladstrup made three stops for Clarkson and Taylor denied four shots for Brockport.
