Knights Fall Twice at St. John Fisher

Rochester, NY – Just 36 hours after enduring a long doubleheader against Ithaca College, the Clarkson University Softball team hit the road for another twin bill and the exhaustion showed as the Golden Knights fell 9-1 and 10-0 against St. John Fisher on Monday afternoon.

The Golden Knights saw their record fall to 11-19 overall with the two losses, while St. John Fisher moved up to 22-4 on the year. Clarkson will face another challenge this weekend when they take on top-20 ranked Rensselaer at Scott Field.

The Cardinals jumped on top early scoring three runs in the first thanks to a Taylor Shackleton double that plated Ainsley Evanetski. Mari Spitz and Amalia DeMartino followed with run-scoring hits to make it 3-0. In the third, two more came in on RBI-hits from Kelly Cournoyer and Katie Mannis, and one more scored on a Madi Rose single in the fifth.

The Knights did pick up a run in the sixth. Emma Sabourin hit a hard grounder up the middle that went nearly to the wall in right-center for a double. Katy Aldous immediately followed with a double to the same spot making it 6-1. However, that wouldn't matter in the bottom half of the inning as the Cardinals picked up three runs. Two came on a homer from Emily McManus, and then a bases loaded fielder's choice off the bat of Tori LoPresto ended the game.

In game two, it was nearly a repeat of the first, as Fisher scored three runs in the first, two in the third, and then five came home in the fourth. Maddie Donlin singled in a run in the first and Mari Spitz sent two more around on a single to make it 3-0. Emma MacLachlan plated a pair with another two-run single in the third. In the fourth. Mari Spitz homered to make it 7-0, Emma MacLachlan singled in two, and CC Holmes drove in another with a sacrifice fly.

Sabourin, Aldous, Isabel Haspil and Elizabeth Greco each recorded his for the Knights.
