CU Softball Drops Pair to Buffalo State and Worcester State

Clermont, FL – The offense struggled on Sunday for the Clarkson University Softball team, as the Golden Knights' bats were silenced in a 3-0 defeat to Buffalo State and a 9-1 loss to Worcester State.

The Golden Knights saw their mark fall to 3-5 overall on the year. The team looks to rebound against Endicott and Keuka on Monday.

In the first game, the Bengals would get all the runs they would need in the first inning. Sarah Congelosi walked and stole second and came around on a double from Caitlyn Parsons. Parsons would then score on a single up the middle by Madison Lucas. Clarkson challenged with a runner on second with two outs but could get no further. The Knights wouldn't have another runner in scoring position again until the fifth inning. Pinch-runner Karyssa Parker moved from first to second on a sac bunt and then advance to third on a ground out, but a liner to center ended the threat.

Buffalo State picked up an insurance run in the third as pinch-hitter Katie Pyszczek delivered an RBI single to make it 3-0. Clarkson's lone hit of the game came off the bat of Emma Sabourin, who started with a single in the first frame.

Devin Fitzpatrick took the loss, allowing six hits and one walk with six strikeouts over seven frames. Lucas Madison tossed a one-hitter and whiffed six in the victory.

Worcester State shortened the second game to five innings with a big fifth inning, but got started with runs in the first and fourth. Abigail Koziol pushed a run across with a ground out and Bella Gasbarro singled in another in the first. Clarkson was able to cut the lead in half in the fourth thanks to an RBI double from Devin Fitzpatrick, which plated Katy Aldous. However, Worcester would get the run right back and tack on another thanks to a two-run single from Cali Brouillard. The game ended in the fifth thanks to five more runs, ending on a Morgan Keefe single to right-center.

Clarkson produced two hits, both coming in the fourth inning. Lily Corrice took the loss, going four innings, while Fitzpatrick got two outs in the fifth before the end of the game. Taylor Coonan earned the win, allowing two hits and walking none with one strikeout in four frames.
