On one of the coldest day of the winter so far in Potsdam, the Golden Knights provided some heat to the 800+ that came to Cheel with a 5-1 victory over Harvard.
Â
Clarkson jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the opening 20 minutes and cruised to a 5-1 win over the Crimson of Harvard. Â
Baylee Kirwan netted two goals and
Julia Minotti backboned the defensive effort with 14 saves.
Â
Anne Cherkowski opened the scoring at 10:56 when a scramble in front after a point shot from
Sidney Fess was tapped up and over the Crimson goalie to make it 1-0. Then just a minute later,
Baylee Kirwan sent a backhand a shot up and over the shoulder of the Crimson net-minder.
Â
Â
Harvard pulled to within 2 late in the period, as Ella Lucia scored at 19:35.
Â
Clarkson out shot the Crimson 14 to 5 in the opening 20 minutes. Â
Â
In the middle period,
Caroline Goffredo was able to slam home a rebound after a furious series of shots in front of the Crimson net. The Knights 4th goal would chase Davidson from the Harvard net in favor of Ainsley Tuffy. Davidson ended with 18 saves and Tuffy finished with 15.
Â
Clarkson controlled the play for the third period with the 3-goal lead, out-shooting Harvard 10-5 and at 16:11
Baylee Kirwan scored her 2nd of the game on a breakaway sprung by
Madison Chantler.Â
Â
Harvard would take a penalty with 2:00 left on the clock, effectively ending any chance at pulling their goalie and trying for a comeback.
Â
Clarkson was 1-2 on the power play and held Harvard 0 for 2 on the penalty kill.Â
Â
The win runs the Knights record to 16-3-1 and 7-1 in ECAC play. Clarkson will head into the break in 3rd place and start the semester with first and second place Colgate and Cornell.Â
