Knights Five-Match Win Streak Snapped at Brockport

Brockport, NY – Late in each set, the Clarkson University Volleyball team found itself on the short end of a run as Brockport ended the Golden Knights five-match winning streak with a 25-15, 25-19, 25-13 sweep Friday evening.

The Golden Knights fell to 12-13 on the season while Brockport improved to 15-9. Clarkson closes out the regular season on Saturday when it faces St. John Fisher in advance of its Liberty League playoff match Tuesday.

Although Clarkson opened with the first point of the set, Brockport led for the majority of the beginning points against the Knights, edging up by three after a Kaylee Holly-Dickerson kill. The Knights came back to tie the set at 6-6 and had another brief lead at 8-7 off an ace from Abigail Spector. The two teams tied seven times in the first 22 points before Brockport again gained a three-point advantage at 14-11, forcing the Knights to take a timeout. The Knights recovered and were back within one on a couple of occasions, including at 16-15 off a service error. However, Brockport rattled off nine straight to end the set for a 25-15 victory. Brockport's offense was ran well at a .333 hitting percentage (11-2-27) while also producing four blocks on defense.

The second set started much in the same way as the first with numerous ties. Marin Hangliter produced the first three points, all on kills, for the Knights which created a number of ties in the early going. Clarkson had a pair of two-point leads before Brockport pulled even once again, as the two teams tied at 13, marking the 11th time they were knotted up. That would be the last, however, as Brockport picked up a three-point advantage, forcing Clarkson to call for time. Following that break, the two teams rolled off several quick points on service errors and aces, but again the Eagles found the gear they needed late, pulling forward to a six-point advantage at 22-16. Although the Knights recovered briefly, two attack errors at the end of the game gave Brockport the win.

Clarkson opened set number three with the first three points following an ace from Olivia Baxter, but Brockport responded with five of the next six points, ending with a kill by Alenna Williamson. Although the Knights came back with three straight, the Golden Eagles went on another of their runs, scoring eight of 10 points and causing a Clarkson timeout. Alexis Sison recorded another kill to keep the run alive before the Knights halted things with a kill by Allyson Treichel. That proved to be the last gasp for the Clarkson. Brockport steadily increased its advantage to nine on two occasions before pushing it to double figures to close out the match.

Hangliter posted nine kills to lead the Knights on offense. Ashley Currier recorded 17 assists and 10 digs and Abigail Spector picked up nine digs. For Brockport, Alexis Sison had eight kills and 14 digs, Alenna Williamson had seven kills and Maddy Howell recorded five kills on nine swings. Elsie Logan also had 16 digs and two aces.
