Knights Sweep Second Straight Conference Match

Potsdam, NY – For the second straight day, the Clarkson University Volleyball team came out of the gate a little slow but turned on the jets when it mattered, downing Bard College in three straight sets, 25-15, 25-9, 25-12, on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in Liberty League matches, while the Raptors fell to 7-9 and 0-2. Clarkson will be in Saratoga Springs next weekend, facing Skidmore College in a conference match and then facing University of Rochester and Middlebury College in non-league action.

In a repeat of Friday evening's performance, Clarkson found itself down near the midway point of the first set, trailing 11-9 to the Raptors. However, Clarkson won 11 of the next 12 points as Sara Galante three kills, two aces, and a block assist in the run. Although Bard would get back within six (21-15), the Knights scored three of the next four points on errors by the Raptors to close out the set.

Also just like Friday's match against Vassar, the Knights raced out to big leads in the final two sets to clinch the match. Clarkson won 10 of 11 points in an early stretch of set number two, with Olivia Freer contributing back-to-back kills. Although Bard did get back within eight, another 6-0 run, with three straight kills from sophomore Tess Sorel, ended any hope of the Raptors making their way back. The third set saw the Knights jump out to a 10-2 lead, with the advantage expanding to double figures just a few points later. Block assists by Allyson Treichel and Tess Sorel put the margin firmly at 11, and the Knights cruised the rest of the way for the victory.

Sara Galante had nine kills, five service aces, and 12 digs to lead the Knights, while Olivia Freer contributed eight kills. Tess Sorel (6-1-10) hit .500 in the match and also had five block assists. Anna Mayer and Isabelle Crow split setting duties with 16 and 15 assists, respectively, and Abigail Spector notched 17 digs.

For Bard, Adi David hit .500 (4-0-8), had three aces, and also posted 12 assists. Ryan Lum scored five kills and also added nine digs.
