CU Baseball Preview - at Hobart College (3/24-25)

Weather has bumped the first-ever Liberty League contests for Hobart College, as the Clarkson University Baseball team will head to Geneva, NY, this weekend for a three-game set against the Statesmen.

The games were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but precipitation in the forecast has the games moved to Friday and Saturday. Friday's contest will be played at McDonough Field in Geneva, and Saturday's doubleheader will be at Falcon Park in Auburn, NY.

The Series: The games this weekend will be the first that the Golden Knights play against Hobart College in more than two decades. The last two times the teams played came in 1995 before Hobart dropped the program.

Key Stats for Clarkson (1-8): The Golden Knights challenged themselves with a solid schedule in Florida and came away with a .291 batting average and a .370 on-base percentage. The team still is without a home run in 2023, but the Green and Gold have more extra base hits than their opponents (17-14). Caleb Doyle leads the team with a .400/.500/.433 slash line in 36 at bats, while Colby Brouillette is hitting .361/.395/.444. Senior Jake Millich is off to a strong start at .333/.371/.515, boasting the highest slugging percentage on the team. Nicholas Hofacker has 15 strikeouts in 15 innings with a 2.40 earned run average and Derrick Lewis has fanned 12 in 11 innings of work.

Key Stats for Hobart (2-6): Michael Whiteherse has swiped 10 bases in 11 tries with a .250/.382/.321 slash line and a team-best nine runs scored. Ty Gallagher, Christian Petry, and Isaiah Pinto have all produced excellent numbers in the first quarter of the season. Gallagher is hitting .423/.500/.731 with five extra base hits and seven runs batted in, Petry is hitting .409/.519/.545, and Pinto is batting .353/.520/.588. Max Friedlander has run into some bad luck on the mound with a 4.91 earned run average, a number that belies his first 11 innings where he has allowed 10 hits and four walks with 15 strikeouts.
