Kerwin Homers for Second Straight Day in CU Softball Split

Auburndale, FL – For the second straight day, the Clarkson University Softball team dropped its opener but picked up a win in game two as the Golden Knights split another doubleheader, falling to Rutgers-Camden 4-0 in the first game and winning the second 8-2 over Framingham State.

The Golden Knights moved to 3-5 on the season and will now get a day off before facing New Paltz and Knox College on Tuesday.

Rutgers-Camden scored all of the runs it would need in the top of the first inning as Bella Lynch drove in two with a single and then scored another run on a base hit from Luci Hutchinson. Camden would add another run on an error to finish put four on the board before Clarkson got its first hacks.

The Knights would have their chances, putting at least one runner in scoring position in the first, second, fourth, and fifth innings. Clarkson's best chance came in the bottom of the second with runners on second and third and just one out, but a strikeout and lineout ended the threat.

Bridget Twaits ended the first game going 2-for-4 and Elizabeth Greco was 2-for-3.

Clarkson took little time scoring in the second game of the day, posting two runs in the first and then four in the second. In the top of the first frame, Zoey Kovach singled in a run and Becky Kennedy-Titsworth also plated a run with a single to right. In the second, Twaits drove in a run with a single, Kovach picked up another RBI with a groundout, Katy Aldous singled in a run, and Kennedy-Titsworth also drove in a run with a groundout.

Framingham picked up two in the fifth, one on a run-scoring infield single and another on a throwing error, but Clarkson got the runs back in the top of the seventh when Bridget Kerwin blasted her second home run in as many days.

Riley Page tossed a complete game, allowing five hits and two unearned runs with eight strikeouts over seven frames. Twaits again was 2-for-4 and Emma Sabourin scored three times.
