Clarkson will end the semester with two non league games against Stonehill and the US U18 National Development Team. Tonight's opponent, Stonehill, is new to Division I and has yet to face the Knights.
The Knights jumped up into 2nd place in the ECAC on the back of a 3-0 shutout of Harvard and a 2-2 tie with the extra point from the shoot out win over Dartmouth.
This season against common opponents, Stonehill is 0-4, losing two each to Union and Brown. Overall the Skyhawks are 0-16-0. This is not Stonehill's first trip to Potsdam recently, last year the Skyhawks topped SUNY Potsdam over at Maxcy Hall.
So far this season the Knights play better with the lead, they are 6-1 this season when they score first and 5-0-1 when leading after two periods. The penalty kill is the 6th best in the NCAA at 89.1%. Clarkson has killed off 41 of 46 chances.
Ryan Richardson and
Ellis Rickwood lead the team with 2 power play goals each. While the power play has not been as effective as the Knights would like, it doesn't seem to matter...the Knights are 7-3 when they don't score a PP goal and 0-2-1 when they do score on the PP. The Knights have generated 30+ shots in 3 of their last 5 games. In that span they have averaged 28.6 shots per game and are 4-0-1.
Trey Taylor leads the team in Blocked Shots (29) and Shots Taken (34). Grad Transfer,
Austin Roden, has started ten games for the Knights thus far, posting a .931 save % and a 1.89 GAA. He is unbeaten in 5 straight and was named the MAC Goaltending ECAC Goalie of the Week after the wins at Brown and Yale.
Tonight the Knights will be without 5 players that are physically unable to play, so they will rely on the depth that has 20 skaters that have recorded at least 1 point.
