Ryan Miles-Ferguson Nets Career-Best 27 in Knights Win Over Hilbert

Hamburg, NY – Ten 3-pointers in the first half got the offense moving as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team collected an 81-70 win over Hilbert College on the first day of the Hawks Against Hunger Tip-Off Tournament, hosted by Hilbert.

The Golden Knights will face the winner of Allegheny College and Lancaster Bible at 3:00 pm on Saturday.

Clarkson worked mostly inside to start the game as its first four baskets of the contest were all layups or short shots, but Matteo Sinon's 3-pointer at the 14-minute mark started a hot stretch of shooting from the perimeter for the Knights. Senior guard Frankie Rainville came off the bench with a hot hand, tossing in four 3-pointers as well as a short jumper in the paint for 14 points in a stretch of less than six minutes. He passed the baton to Ryan Miles-Ferguson, who was held scoreless for the first 11 minutes of the half, but finished with 11 points down the stretch as Clarkson ended the first 20 minutes with a 12-point lead, 42-30 at the break.

At the start of the second half, Hilbert and Clarkson traded baskets, but a three-point play on a layup and free throw from Edward Perez pulled the Hawks to within six (50-44). Finn Cork responded with a similar play at the other end and Miles-Ferguson hit another 3-pointer shortly thereafter to return the margin to 12. A layup-and-one from Miles-Ferguson at the 11:14 mark gave Clarkson its biggest lead of the game (62-46), but Hilbert would not go away, eventually trimming the gap to nine with a little over four minutes to go. Another make from Ryan Miles-Ferguson from beyond the 3-point stripe returned the advantage to 12, ended the Hawks' chances for a comeback.

Ryan Miles-Ferguson scored a career-high 27 points, going 7-for-14 from the floor with five 3-pointers and then adding in 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Finn Cork was within a rebound of a double-double thanks to 15 points and nine rebounds, shooting 7-for-10 from the field. Frankie Rainville chipped in 14 points on 4-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc and Matteo Sinon scored 11 points while also adding in seven assists.

For Hilbert, Quran Briggs scored 17 points, Edward Perez had 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Eric Jackson pitched in 10 points, 10 boards, and six assists.
