Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Knights Come Up One Shot Short for Second Straight Day in Defeat Against Bard

Potsdam, NY – A last second 3-pointer from Ryan Miles Ferguson missed the mark as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball was unable to force overtime for the second consecutive day, falling to Bard College 73-70 in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell below .500 in the league, dropping to 2-3 in conference play and 5-7 overall, while Bard edged up to 4-8 and 1-4. Clarkson hits the road for a long stretch starting next weekend, beginning with games against Rensselaer and Ithaca.

Bard rushed out to an early lead with a solid inside-outside game, with Calvin Mader-Clark hitting a 3-pointer at the 14:06 mark for a 15-8 lead, and the Raptors expanded on that by adding another 12-3 run on top of it for a 27-11 advantage near the midway mark of the half. Clarkson chipped away slowly to draw within 10 near the end of the half and finished just five down at the break thanks to two good defensive plays. Jack Dalgety blocked a shot down low to start a fast break where Blake Gearhart finished off a layup, and on the ensuing possession Matteo Sinon got a steal and lifted a 3-pointer from 25-feet to put the score at 34-29.

Bard regrouped out of the break and regained a double-digit advantage for most of the first portion of the second half. By the midway point, however, the Knights were back within four when Garret Delaney hit a long-range shot, making it 56-52 with 9:53 to go. Roughly five minutes later, a Delaney 3-pointer from the top of the key drew the Knights within one. The game remained close for the next few minutes, though a 3-pointer from Mader-Clark of Bard gave the Raptors a two-possession lead (71-65). Sinon responded with a 3-pointer with less than a minute to play to again make it a one-point margin, but two free throws from Greg Farrow put the Raptors up by three late, forcing the Knights into a 3-point shot on its final possession which would not fall.

Sophomore guard Matteo Sinon led the Golden Knights with 16 points, shooting 6-for-10 from the field and 4-for-6 from beyond the 3-point arc, and freshman Aydin Kocak chipped in 10 points. Blake Gearhart also added nine points and six assists.

For Bard, Tyler Bruns scored 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting and Ayo Akin-Bankole dropped in 14, going 7-for-9 from the floor. Calvin Mader-Clark also added 13 points while Azriel Almodovar snagged 15 rebounds, including 14 on the defensive end, to go along with nine points and five assists.
