Clarkson would jump out to a 2-0 lead, but 4 unanswered goals from St. Lawrence left Clarkson on the short end of a 4-2 score at Appleton.
Clarkson would waste no time trying to quiet the crowd when
Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup scored just 37 seconds into the game with an assist from
Dustyn McFaul.
Ayrton Martino would make it 2-0 in the 1st period at 16:22. The goal was reviewed to see if it did cross the line, as it bounced off the post and into the goaltender's skate before finally crossing the line.
In the 2nd the Saints would begin to chip away, Greg Lapointe would get his first of two straight goals at 10:07. Â
In the 3rd, Lapointe would tie the game at 9:38. The teams seemed headed to overtime until a face-off win by St. Lawrence led to a point shot that got thru the screen in front with just 1:00 left on the clock to give the Saints the lead.Â
The goal would be reviewed and determined to be a good goal. The request to review would lead the Knights to have to serve a Delay of Game penalty, thus making it more difficult to get the goalie off for an extra attacker. With about 30 seconds left, the Knights got over the SLU blueline and started to get Haider to the bench, when a turnover allowed the Saint's Cameron Buhl to get a shot into the net before Haider could get back to his crease.Â
The Saints outshot Clarkson 32 to 19 in the game. Clarkson was 0 for 1 on the power play, while SLU was 1 for 4 (the 4th goal with the goalie going to the bench was a power play goal)
The teams will be right back at it tomorrow night at Cheel, 7:00 pm faceoff.Â
