Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Gearhart's 22 Points Not Enough in Clarkson's 78-66 Defeat to Skidmore

Potsdam, NY – The visitors scored the first 12 points as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team was scoreless for the first seven minutes, and that margin proved the difference as the Golden Knights fell to Skidmore 78-66 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights saw their season end at 6-19 overall and 3-15 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore clinched itself a playoff spot at 13-10 and 9-8.

Alexei Downie's 3-pointer at the 14:11 mark put Skidmore up 12-0, but the Green and Gold finally got things going when Joe Lucas buried a 3-pointer at the 12:59 mark. Clarkson edged back to within six briefly only to see Skidmore go on an 11-3 run, topped by a make from Harrison Eichelberger at 8:22. Clarkson responded with its own 11-3 run thanks to 3-pointers from Chris Hulbert, Jack Dalgety, and Garret Delaney. The margin was still six when Blake Gearhart converted a layup in the final minute, but the Thoroughbreds scored two late on free throws to head to the locker room with an eight-point lead.

Reese Swedberg opened the second half with a 3-pointer to draw the Knights within five, the smallest the gap had been since the opening minutes. Instead of seeing the margin reduced any further, Skidmore extended its lead to 14, but Clarkson chipped away in the next few minutes drawing to within seven when Roburt Welch hit one of two free throws at 11:53. A Joe Lucas layup with a little under eight minutes to go again drew the Knights closer (56-50), but Skidmore went on an 8-0 run, capped by a Greg Skoric dunk at 4:36. Three times the Knights cut the deficit to single digits, but Skidmore answered every time down the stretch.

Blake Gearhart closed out the game with 22 points on 7-for-13 shooting and 8-for-9 from the free throw line while also adding four rebounds and four assists. Ryan Miles-Ferguson also tossed in nine points for the Knights.

Greg Skoric had an impressive double-double on 25 points and 18 rebounds, shooting 10-for-16 from the floor. Riley Greene also added 18 points and six assists.
