Knights Fall In Three Sets to Ithaca, Get Bye For Conference Tournament

Potsdam, NY – Though all three sets were close, the Clarkson University Volleyball team dropped a three-set match against Ithaca College on Saturday (25-18, 25-20, 25-21) as the Golden Knights dipped to the second seed for the upcoming Liberty League Tournament.

The Golden Knights saw their mark fall to 15-10 overall and 7-1 in the Liberty League while Ithaca edged up to 22-4 overall and 8-0 in conference games. Clarkson receives a bye for the first round of the Liberty League Tournament and will be trying to defend its conference title at Ithaca next weekend.

However, Ithaca went on a 5-1 run to push its margin to four points and then followed with a 5-0 mark for an eight-point lead (24-16). That was enough of an advantage for the Bombers to cruise to the win in the first game, hitting .400 while holding Clarkson to a .031 mark.

Clarkson's defense stepped up in the next two sets and kept Ithaca's offense mostly in check (.133 in set two, .171 in set three). The third set saw Clarkson roll out to a 5-0 lead with kills from four different players, but the Bombers scored five straight. Clarkson held a two-point lead late (21-19) thanks to a kill from Allyson Treichel and a hitting error by the Bombers, but Ithaca's defense at the net took over down the stretch. The Bombers had four blocks in the next six points and closed out the Knights, 25-21.

Allyson Treichel led the Knights with nine kills and four total blocks, while Kristin Werdine added eight kills and Sara Galante contributed seven kills. Isabelle Crow had 29 assists, and Emma Baxter led the defense with 12 digs.
