Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Knights Fall at RPI, 3-0

Troy, NY – Two second-half goals sealed the win for the host team on Saturday as the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team closed out its regular season with a 3-0 loss at Rensselaer.

The Golden Knights fell to 9-4-3 overall and 2-4-3 in the Liberty League while Rensselaer evened its mark at 6-6-5 overall while pushing its league mark to 4-3-2.

Clarkson had a solid start with three shots from Bobby Guilfoil in the early going, but it was the Engineers that would break through in the first half. Kyle Osborne fought off a defender on the left sideline, beat another defender to the ball, and flicked a feed to Paul Silva, where he was able to flick the ball past Josh Morelli in the 38th minute.

The Golden Knights had to change tactics after the goal in hopes of getting the equalizer, but the Engineers scored at the 56:38 mark in the second half to put the score at 2-0. Julio Rodriguez angled a left-footed shot around Morelli for his third goal of the year. The Engineers picked up an insurance goal at the 85:00 mark when Liam McDermott arced the ball over a defender and into a vacated goal.

The Engineers led in shots (14-6), though it was just a 6-5 margin in the first half. RPI also had six corner kicks while the Knights had none. Morelli made three stops for Clarkson while Luke Brezak made three saves for the Engineers.
