Kladstrup Stops Eight in Knights' 1-0 Shutout Over RIT

Potsdam, NY – Freshman goalkeeper Carter Kladstrup made some outstanding saves for the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team, and the Golden Knights' offense rewarded his effort with a goal in the final 15 minutes to give the 19th-ranked Green and Gold a 1-0 Liberty League win over RIT on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Field.

The Knights picked up their first conference win of the season with the victory, improving to 7-1-1 and 1-1-1 in league games, while the Tigers dropped to 3-3-3 and 1-2-0. Clarkson heads down Route 11 on Wednesday to take on St. Lawrence University.

RIT had some solid opportunities in the first half, challenging Kladstrup with a few shots that made the first-year collegian extend himself to deny the chances, and fortunately each time he was able to hang on to the ball without allowing a rebound opportunity. Kladstrup was called upon to make five stops in the first half.

Another significant chance for RIT came on a free kick early on in the second half. The shot came from just outside the penalty area, with Kladstrup diving to his right to push the ball aside. Twenty minutes later, Kladstrup again used his full frame to keep RIT scoreless, going to the top left to tick the ball away from harm.

Clarkson made Kladstrup's effort worthwhile in the 77th minute. The Knights picked up possession just over the center line and a quick look from Josh Conklin put the Knights on the break. Conklin sent a ball down the right side line to Colin Wright, where the freshman carried it in tight and took a hard shot, causing Jason Trapp to go to his side and make the stop. However, he couldn't quite corral the ball into his body, and Jack Donnelly followed the play up, finishing high into the top of the net at 76:49.

RIT finished with a 12-8 edge in shots and a 6-4 lead in corner kick opportunities. Kladstrup made eight saves for the shutout, while Trapp stopped three shots for the Tigers.
