Three In Double Figures But Knights Fall at Union, 84-65

Schenectady, NY –A quiet stretch midway through the first half put the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team in an early hole from which the Golden Knights could not recover, as the Green and Gold suffered an 84-65 defeat at Union College on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 0-6 on the season and 0-2 in Liberty League games and the Dutchmen moved to 4-2 and 2-0. Clarkson will head down Route 11 on Wednesday when the team takes on St. Lawrence University.

Senior Chris Hulbert carried the Knights in the early going against the Dutchmen, scoring nine of the team's 11 points in the first six minutes of the contest, including a pair of 3-pointers. Starting with a layup from Ryan Miles-Ferguson at 11:56, the rest of the Golden Knights began to get rolling, but so did the Union offense. After Hulbert hit a jumper at 10:28, the Dutchmen scored 21 straight points in less than six minutes capped off by a Luke McGarrity 3-pointer at the 4:36 mark. A Teddy Fravel dunk finally ended the run, but Clarkson was only able to reduce the deficit to 14 points by the half.

Ryan Miles-Ferguson scored the first basket of the second half to get the Knights within 12, but Union scored the next eight points to push the margin to nearly 20. The two teams mostly traded baskets for the next 10 minutes. Clarkson climbed back to within 12 on a handful of occasions, and trailed by that margin with three minutes to go, but the Knights missed their final seven shots and could not overcome the deficit.

Hulbert led the Knights in scoring for the second straight day, tossing in 21 points in 30 minutes. Ryan Miles-Ferguson ended up with a double-double thanks to 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Blake Gearhart kicked in 14 points for the Knights.

Four Union players finished in double figures. Justin Regis scored 16 points while Temi George and Brian Noone scored 15 points.
