As expected when a team gives up 5 goals on the Power Play, Alaska came out Saturday looking to salvage the weekend series and put the clamps on a hot Clarkson special teams unit. It worked for about 35 minutes.
The Golden Knights went down 2-0 in the 2nd period as the Nanooks scored 5:16 and 11:43 into the period. They had a sizable shot advantage at the halfway point of the game. Then a delay of game penalty at 13:37 by Alaska gave the Knights the oxygen they were looking for, as
Alex Campbell scored at 14:55.
Zach Tsekos and
Lukas Kaelble assisted on the goal. The Nonooks took another penalty 16:37, which allowed the Knights to tie the game when Tsekos scored his 5th of the season. Just :24 seconds later,
Luke Santerno gave the Knights the lead for good. Santerno would pick up the empty net goal to seal the game.
Ethan Haider ended with 32 saves while the Knights 21 shots on goal for the game.
Clarkson was 2 for 3 on the power play and killed off all 4 chances for Alaska.
The Knights will continue their home stand next week as they host another hockey program celebrating their 100th season, Michigan Tech.
