CU Men's Soccer Preview - vs. RIT (9/29)

Winless in two conference outings, both the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team and its opponent RIT will be looking to get back on the winning track when the two teams face one another on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: The Knights lost two games against the Tigers last year, both by identical 2-1 scores. RIT is unbeaten against Clarkson since joining the Liberty League, and the Green and Gold's last win against RIT came in 2010. Even with the 0-7-1 streak, Clarkson narrowly trails in the all-time series 20-25-4.

Key Stats for Clarkson (6-2-1, 0-1-1): It's odd for a team that is fourth in the conference in scoring to be struggling for goals, but the Golden Knights have found the back of the net just once in the last four games (380 minutes). The shots are there, but the results are not: Clarkson has 56 shots in the last four games while allowing just 36, yet the Knights are just 1-2-1 in that stretch. Clarkson's defense remains strong in that stretch, giving up only nine shots per game and just 3.5 shots on goal per contest. In six outings, junior Ian Roeloffs has a 0.80 goals against average and .828 save percentage with 24 total saves.

Key Stats for RIT (4-3-1, 0-2-0): Second in the conference in goals per game, the Tigers are also struggling a bit on offense since the conference season opened up, going goalless against both Vassar and Hobart. When the offense is on, it generally involves Nick Simone, who has been a part of two-thirds of RIT's goals, scoring three times and assisting on seven others. All three of his goals have come on penalty kicks. Alec Jackson and Jared Short have been frequent recipients of Simone passes, as the duo has combined for nine goals. Will Sokol is third in the conference in total saves with 40, posting a 1.22 goals against average and .800 save percentag
