Granuzzo's Two Sacrifice Flies Give Knights 3-2 Win In Extras

Potsdam, NY – A relatively quiet offensive game ended in the bottom of the 10th inning on a sacrifice fly from Vincent Granuzzo as the Clarkson University Baseball team rallied from a late deficit to gain a 3-2 win in extra innings over Plattsburgh State on Tuesday afternoon at Jack Phillips Stadium.

The Golden Knights halted their losing skid at five games with the win, moving to 5-9 overall. Plattsburgh State dropped to 6-14 overall. Clarkson is scheduled to host Vassar College this weekend, but inclement weather may cause a change of venue or dates.

Both teams were quiet on offense for the first few frames, as it took three innings for the Knights to put a runner on first base. Clarkson produced its first run in the bottom of the fifth when Joe Stockman led off with a single up the middle, advanced to second on a sac bunt, moved to third on a groundout and then scored on a passed ball. Plattsburgh tied things up in the sixth on a two-out double from Joe Deland which plated Noah Clark.

The Cardinals pushed across a second run in the top of the eighth as an error allowed Patrick Bryant to score from second on a throwing error. However, Will Coleman delivered a one-out double in the bottom of the eighth, and after stealing third, he came home on a Granuzzo sacrifice fly to left.

In the top of the 10th, Justin Judson led off with a single up the middle and moved to second on a passed ball. After a stolen base, two runners reached, including an intentional walk to Coleman to load the bases. Brad Pearson flew out to left, but it was not deep enough to send Judson scampering home. However, Granuzzo's fly ball to right was just enough to allow Judson to score from third with the winning run.

Nate Burns earned the win in relief, tossing three scoreless innings with just one hit and one walk allowed.
