Key ECAC Hockey Games on Tap for Clarkson vs Central NY Rivals at Cheel

With six games remaining in the regular season the Clarkson University Hockey team finds itself in a strong position to challenge for the ECAC Hockey regular season title. The Golden Knights are in second place in the conference at 11-3-2, three points out of the top spot. Ranked seventh in the national polls, Clarkson, guided by seventh-year head coach Casey Jones and assistants Phil Roy '00 and Josh Hauge, stands at 19-6-3 overall.

The Green and Gold, however, have been mired in a funk since mid-January, going just 1-3-2 in their last six games. This past Friday and Saturday the Knights suffered their first weekend sweep in league play this season, falling on the road at Quinnipiac 4-1 and Princeton 4-3.

An excellent opportunity is presented to Clarkson this weekend to reestablish itself as the top team in ECAC Hockey as the Knights host Central NY rivals Cornell and Colgate in a pair of 7:00 p.m. games at Cheel Arena.

The Big Red lead the rivalry against the Knights 66-55-16, but the series is tied 2-2-1 in the last five meetings. Clarkson is coming off its 14th shutout all-time against the Big Red, a 4-0 victory at Lynah Rink on November 18. The two long-time foes played five times in the second half of last season with Cornell holding the advantage 2-1-2. The Big Red edged the Green and Gold in an ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series 2-1 (2-6, 2-1, 2-1) at Lynah Rink on March 10-12. The teams skated to a pair of 3-3 overtime ties during the 2016-17 regular season. Clarkson is 13-8-7 against Cornell at Cheel Arena.
• Clarkson has won three of the last four games against Colgate to take an 84-52-17 lead in the all-time series, which began during the 1927-28 campaign.
