CLARKSON vs St. Lawrence in Thanksgiving Faceoff

Coming off two hard-earned victories over WCHA power Michigan Tech, Clarkson University will look to successfully close out a four-game stretch of out-of-conference action when it battles archrival St. Lawrence University in Saturday's Thanksgiving Faceoff in Lake Placid. The Golden Knights and Saints will faceoff at 7:00 p.m. in non-league action at 1980 Herb Brooks Arena for the first of three games between the North Country foes over the next three weeks.

Guided by eighth-year Head Coach Casey Jones and assistants Josh Hauge and Brent Brekke, Clarkson stands at 6-4 overall. The Knights, at 1-1 in the conference, will return to ECAC Hockey play on November 30 when they host Brown at Cheel Arena followed by Yale on December 1. The Green and Gold will then battle St. Lawrence in a conference home-and-home series on December 7-8, playing in Canton on Friday and in Potsdam on Saturday.

 
• In the overall series between the North Country rivals, which began in the 1925-26 campaign, the Golden Knights hold an overwhelming 125-71-11 lead. Clarkson has won three straight over the Saints, but the series is tied 5-5 over the last 10 meetings. The Green and Gold took both games (3-1, 4-2) from St. Lawrence last season, Clarkson has won two of the last three Holiday Faceoffs against the Saints in Lake Placid. The Knights claimed the inaugural Festivus Faceoff, 2-1 in overtime on October 30, 2010. St. Lawrence won 4-1 on December 10, 2011, while Clarkson skated to a 3-1 victory on December 8, 2012.
• Clarkson regrouped nicely from its disappointing loss at Canisius on November 10 with a pair of solid 60-minute efforts against Michigan Tech to come away with two 3-1 victories over the Huskies, snapping the visitors' four-game winning streak. 
• Jake Kielly was on top of his game in the sweep, turning away 51 of 53 Michigan Tech shots, and backstopping the Knights' perfect penalty kill on the weekend (10-of-10). For the second time this month, Kielly has been named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week. The only conference goaltender to post two victories on the week, the junior from Eden Prairie, MN made 26 saves in Friday's victory and followed with 25 more in Saturday's triumph. Kielly, who has started all 10 games for the Green and Gold, posts a.918 save percentage and a 2.33 goals against average. He was also named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the week on November 5 and earned conference Goaltender of the Month honors for October. Kielly was named one of the 20 Division I goaltenders to the watch list for the 2019 Mike Richter Award, which annually honors the most outstanding goaltender in the NCAA. He leads all current goaltenders in career shutouts with 12.
• Junior forwards Devin Brosseau and Nico Sturm have been named "Robert E. Empie '68 Men's Hockey Team Captains" while senior forward Marly Quince and Jake Kielly will serve as assistant captains. 
• Clarkson has scored the opening goal in each of the first 10 games, but has only held the lead after the first period three times.
• The Knights are 6-0-0 when leading after two periods.  Since the 2015-16 campaign, Clarkson is 52-5-6 when leading through 40 minutes.
• The Knights have outscord their opponents 9-4 in the opening 20 minutes and 14-8 in the thid period. The second period has proved to be Clarkson's undoing having been outscored 12-9 in the middle frame.
• Six different Knights accounted for Clarkson's six goals in the sweep of Michigan Tech.
• Nico Sturm paced the offense with one goal and two assists agaist the Huskies. Sturm, who has at least one point in every game this season, leads the Green and Gold in scoring with 14 points on a team-high six goals and eight assists. The center has won a team-high 60% (96-64) of his faceoffs and holds a team-high +10 plus/minus. Sturm is listed among the Top 75 NCAA players to watch by The Hockey News.
• Two players, who sat out the game at Canisius nursing injuries, made a big impact against Michigan Tech. Sophomore Grant Cooper sealed Friday's win with his fourth goal of the year, an empty-net tally.  Marly Quince connected for the game winner on Saturday for his first goal of the season.
• Haralds Egle has been a consistent force up front in the early going and is second on the team in scoring with four goals and six assists. He netted the game-winning goal on Friday and recorded an assist in Saturday's victory over Michigan Tech.  Egle has recorded at least one point in eight of the first 10 games.
• Sophomore Jack Jacome opened the weekend scoring against Michigan Tech with his third goal of the season. He has seven points (3-4) on the year.
• After scoring two goals combined through his first two season, junior defenseman Greg Moro tallied his third goal of the season on Saturday vs Michigan Tech. He connected for his first career power play goals this season and leads the Knights with two goals on the man advantage. Moro is the Knights' top scorer from the blueline with eight points, including five assists. He posts a +5 plus/minus rating. 
• Entering his junior season, defenseman Jordan Schneider had tallied two career points (a goal and an assist in his freshman campaign). Through10 games this season, he has recorded four points on one goal and three assists to go along with a +7 plus/minus rating (second best on the team).  
• Freshman defenseman Michael Underwood recorded his first career point in Saturday's win with the lone assist on Clarkson's empty-net goal. 
• Defensemen have accounted for 27.5% of the Knights' offense with 25 points on six goals and 19 assists.
• In its 97th season, Clarkson boasts 73 winning campaigns and a 1,443-866-160 all-time record for a .617 winning percentage since 1920-21.
