CU Men's Soccer Preview - at Rensselaer (10/27)

A win or even a tie on Saturday could put the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team back in the playoffs, but no matter what the Golden Knights do against Rensselaer they will need help to earn a post-season berth.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: Clarkson ended an 11-game winless streak (0-10-1) against Rensselaer last year when James Homan scored in overtime for a 2-1 Green and Gold victory. The match up has Clarkson trailing 22-28-4.

Key Stats for Clarkson (10-5-1, 3-4-1 Liberty League): The Golden Knights suffered a hiccup last week with two overtime losses, but Clarkson got back on track with a 3-0 win against SUNY Potsdam despite resting two of its senior starters in Drew Lewis and James Homan, a pair of players that have combined for seven goals and an assist this year. Clarkson leads the conference in shots (244) and is the only team to allow single digits in goals (9). Senior goalkeeper Riley McDonald leads the conference in goals against average (0.40) and save percentage (.907) while recording a solo shutout or shared shutout in seven of his 10 starts.

Key Stats for Rensselaer (8-8-1, 5-3-0 Liberty League): There is no hotter team in the conference than the Engineers as RPI has won four straight contests by a combined score of 12-0. Trevor Bisson, Austin Betterly and Tommaso Valagussa each scored two goals in the run, with Michael Harten assisting twice and Billy Chissoe notching a goal and an assist. Chissoe (5-1-11) and Betterly (4-2-10) lead the team's offense, which is one of the more efficient in the conference as 51.2% of RPI's shots end up on goal. Prior to the four-game winning streak, the Engineers had just four wins in 13 games despite outscoring opponents 20-19 in that stretch.
