CU Men's Soccer Preview - vs. Skidmore College (10/17)

Although the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team celebrated its five seniors over the past weekend, the Golden Knights still have one regular-season home game remaining. The Green and Gold will look to continue their winning ways when it faces Skidmore College at 7:00 pm on Wednesday at Hantz Turf Field.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: Last year's 3-2 win against the Thoroughbreds ended a 14-game winless streak (0-13-1) for Clarkson, and the Golden Knights still trail in the all-time series 12-18-1.

Key Stats for Clarkson (9-3-1, 3-2-1 Liberty League): Thirteen games into the season it is starting to appear that the Golden Knights may truly have an elite defense. Clarkson has allowed only 0.46 goals per game (six goals total) while giving up 119 shots total (9.15 shots per game). Four regular-season games remain, but the Knights could become the first time in program history to give up single digits in that category, with two caveats. Clarkson allowed no goals in 1953, its first season, but played just a single game, and in 1956 the Knights gave up nine goals in eight games. In the past 30 seasons, only five Clarkson teams have allowed fewer than 20 goals in a season. Most recently, the 2016 team allowed just 13 goals and digging further back the 2001 squad allowed 17 goals. The three other teams to accomplish the feat came before most of the current Clarkson players were born.

Key Stats for Skidmore (6-4-3, 2-3-1 Liberty League): The Thoroughbreds defense is also posting quality numbers, allowing just 12 goals in 13 contests, though its defense has given up 63 more shots than Clarkson's. Sebastian Bosch is among the conference leaders in goals against average (0.84) and save percentage (.836) thanks to five shutouts. His 61 saves rank second in the league overall. On offense, Ben Caples leads the team with seven points on two goals and three assists and Kyle Barrett is the top goal scorer with three. Alex Ricci and Shoyo Yanagihara have also tallied two goals apiece in 2018.
