CU Men's Basketball Preview - vs. Hobart/RIT (1/19-20)

Just one game out of a massive four-way tie for the fifth spot in the Liberty League, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team looks to take advantage of its next four home games, beginning this weekend against Hobart and RIT.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series vs. Hobart – Dating back to the 1930-31 season, Clarkson and the Statesmen have met 128 times, with Clarkson coming away with 53 victories. The Knights have been on the short end recently, though, losing four straight and five of the past six games.

The Series vs. RIT – Clarkson trails in the all-time series against the Tigers with only 33 wins against 48 losses. However, the Knights have dominated the series since RIT joined the Liberty League in 2011-12, winning 11 out of 12 contests.

Key Stats for Clarkson (6-8, 2-5 Liberty League): Gary Hanley took some time getting used to the Golden Knights style of play, but the senior forward has established a niche for Clarkson since league play began. Hanley is averaging 8.8 rebounds per game, ranking second in the conference in that category, but he has averaged 11.1 per contest over the last eight games, reaching double figures on six occasions in that span. Additionally, Hanley has accumulated 16 of his 20 blocked shots this season in just the past seven contests.

Key Stats for Hobart (11-3, 6-1 Liberty League): With a stable of excellent shooters, the Statesmen have one of the top offenses in the conference, averaging a league-best 80.1 points per game while ranking second in field goal percentage (46.2%), 3-point field goal percentage (36.9%) and 3-pointers per game (8.8). Four players are averaging double figures, led by junior guard Colin Dougherty's 15.2 points per contest. Classmate Jamal Lucas is also producing 15.1 points per contest and both Dan Masino and Tucker Lescoe are well over 12 points per game, too.

Key Stats for RIT (6-8, 4-3 Liberty League): Sophomore forward Robert Aguilera was a blocked shot artist during his freshman campaign, and he continues to dominate the league in that category with 3.4 per contest, twice as many as any other player in the league. Aguilera's offense has increased as well, as he is now producing a near double-double at 10.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. RIT's offense is last in both scoring (68.1 ppg) and field goal percentage (39.3%) and the Tigers have also hit the fewest 3-pointers in the conference (79). However, RIT is second in rebound margin and is great at getting second chances with 14 offensive boards per game.
