Knights Win 4-1 at Union for 13th Straight Victory

The victories keep coming for the Clarkson University Hockey team as the Golden Knights stretched their successful ways into the New Year defeating Union College 4-1 on the road in their return to ECAC Hockey action.

Winners of 13 straight, the Golden Knights improve to 17-3-1 overall and remain perfect in ECAC Hockey play with a first-place 9-0-0 league mark. Clarkson plays at Rensselaer on Saturday.

Four different Knights scored goals and 12 Clarkson players recorded a point as the Green and Gold displayed a deep, balanced effort in the road win at Messa Rink in Schenectady, NY. Union (11-12-1, 7-4) outshot the Knights 33-29, but sophomore Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) put in another solid effort with 32 saves including 15 stops in the second period to post his 33rd career win in the Clarkson crease.

It did not take long for Clarkson to connect as sophomore left wing Devin Brosseau (St. Lambert, QUE) competed a rush with linemate, center Nico Sturm (Augsburg, Germany), scoring at the back door for his fifth goal of the season just 55 seconds in. Senior defenseman Kelly Summers (Golden Lake, ONT) started the play to earn his 15th assist of the season.

Union evened the score at 14:02 with a power-play marker from Sebastian Vidmar, but Clarkson came back late in the stanza to regain the lead.

With 66 seconds left in the first, freshman defenseman Jere Astren (Helsinki, Finland) found a loose puck at the top of the right circle and fired in blast for his fourth goal of the season to give the Green and Gold the lead heading into the first-period intermission. Blueline partner, senior Tyko Karjalainen (Helsinki, Finland) and freshman Kevin Charyszyn (Jamison, PA) assisted.

After a scoreless second period, Clarkson closed out its third straight victory over the Dutchmen in Schenectady with a pair of third-period tallies.

Junior defenseman Aaron Thow (Toronto, ONT) scored his second of the year at 6:51 with sophomores Sheldon Rempal (Calgary, ALB) and Greg Moro (Edmonton, ALB) setting up the goal. At 10:50, freshman Jack Jacome (Caledon, ONT) netted his third of the year with linemates, sophomore Haralds Egle (Liepaja, Latvia) and classmate Josh Dickinson (Georgetown, ONT) assisting.

Clarkson saw it string of consecutive games with a power-play goal end at 12 games, after going 0-of-5 with the man-advantage against Union. The Dutchmen were 1-of-5 on the power play.
