CU Volleyball Preview - st Union/Skidmore (9/22-23)

Matching up against three ranked teams last weekend definitely prepared the Clarkson University Volleyball team for the weeks ahead, and hopefully that rough patch in the schedule has the Golden Knights ready for their opening conference matches against Union and Skidmore on Friday and Saturday.

The Series vs. Union: The Golden Knights are still trailing in the all-time match up by six (34-40), but Clarkson has won 14 of the last 15 meetings between the two teams. The lone loss came last year when Clarkson lost in five sets in mid-season, but the Knights rallied to sweep the Dutchwomen during the conference tournament.

The Series vs. Skidmore: Clarkson trails against the Thoroughbreds as well, with 19 wins and 29 losses in 48 all-time meetings. However, the Knights have won nine straight, including 27 straight sets. In those 27 sets, Clarkson has held Skidmore to less than 20 points on 21 occasions.

Key Stats for Clarkson (5-6): Sophomore Kate Isaksen ranks second in the nation in digs per set (6.90 dps) and has already surpassed 1100 in her career in fewer than 50 matches. Among Clarkson's six losses this year, four came against nationally ranked teams (#1 Wittenberg, #8 Millikin, #21 St. Thomas, #22 Ohio Northern).

Key Stats for Union (6-7): The Dutchwomen are getting a great deal of offense from their freshmen this season, with Gillian Gore leading the team in kills with 3.33 per set. She also has 20 aces and averages 3.10 digs per set, while Julia Louis also averages 2.36 kills per set. Brianne Hallock is contributing 4.71 digs per set from the back row.

Key Stats for Skidmore (6-5): Three players are battling it out as offensive leader for the Thoroughbreds, providing some depth and plenty of choices. Caite Canfield currently leads Skidmore with 2.72 kills per set and she also is adding in 0.53 aces and 3.28 digs per set. Sophomore middle Katy Ehnstrom is averaging 2.63 kills per set and also has 32 blocks, while Bailey Hutchins averages 2.61 kills per set and 0.46 aces.
