Mired in a four-game winless stretch, including three straight losses, the Clarkson University Hockey team has an excellent opportunity to break out of its doldrums and gain some momentum for the stretch run of the regular season when it hosts ECAC Hockey leader St. Lawrence at Cheel Arena on Saturday. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The Golden Knights, guided by sixth-year head coach Casey Jones and assistants Phil Roy '00 and Josh Hauge, have seven games remaining before postseason play begins and will look for the game against their archrival to serve as the catalyst for a strong showing in February.

This past weekend Clarkson suffered a sweep in its first games in Potsdam since early December, falling to Capital District rivals Union, 6-2, and Rensselaer, 2-1. The Knights own an 11-12-4 overall record and are in seventh place in the ECAC Hockey standings with a 6-7-2 league slate.

• In the overall series between the North Country rivals, which began in the 1925-26 campaign, the Golden Knights hold an overwhelming 122-71-11 lead. The rivalry has gone the way of St. Lawrence recently with the Saints holding a 6-3-1 edge in the last 10 games and a 5-1 advantage in the past six meetings. St. Lawrence has won the last three games all coming in Appleton Arena.
• The Knights have gone 1-6-1 in their last eight conference games. Clarkson has three games at home and four on the road to finish out the regular season. The Knights are three points out of fourth place for the final first-round bye position, but also just four points from falling to ninth place and having to travel for the first round of the playoffs.
